Autumn

A broad taupe band and flowing cornflower-blue scrolls frame a rim filled to the edge with baskets of fruit, curling leaves, and flowers in deep russet, blue, purple, and green. Then you notice the surface beginning to sparkle. Hundreds of tiny raised enamel beads, each applied by hand, catch the light like jewels sewn onto fine fabric. They give the pattern texture, dimension, and movement, inviting the eye to travel around the plate and discover one detail after another.

There is so much happening that it should be too much, but somehow it never is. Autumn is abundance held in perfect discipline.
