The Felt Room
A room shaped by memory
Built slowly, deliberately, around the things that matter most.
The vision
The Felt Room started as an idea for the office near our front door. With its mountain view, I could picture it as a place to sit down with a cup of tea, surrounded by the pieces I’ve collected and the things that remind me of my family.
I’m planning it carefully, from the shelves and drawers to where the kettles will go. I want the room to be beautiful, but I also want everything within reach when someone comes over for tea.
This is where I’ll share the room as it comes together, including the decisions, the work, and the things we change along the way.
The elements
The Table
I wanted a small, round table, something that felt intimate and inviting, just right for tea, long conversations, and the occasional midnight gathering. I had my eye on this one for months, sitting in my shopping cart until a sale finally convinced me to click “Buy.” I love the two-toned pedestal and tabletop, especially how beautifully they complement the oval upholstered Louis XIII-style chairs.
The China Cabinet
Originally, I thought we would build the cabinets from scratch. But alas, having a woodworker for a husband does not mean I get custom furniture. Apparently, I can't afford his work! :) As it turns out, I found cabinets that checked every box. Four towers, each with four shelves and three drawers, enough room to give every pattern its own place while keeping everything accessible for mixing, matching, and actually using. Now I just need to convince him to make them look built-in. Fingers crossed!
The Tea
I've chosen more than twenty tea varieties, so there's always an old favorite or something new to try. The kettles, tea tins, and everything needed for another cup will have their own place. I love thinking through the little details, from which tea to serve to which cups to use. But once everyone sits down, I want to forget about the details and enjoy the company.
The Memories
Some of the pieces in this room already hold memories of family dinners, midnight teas with my sons, and people I love. Paintings by my Grandma and Dad hang on the walls, alongside little mementos that remind me of where I came from. And now, I get to make new memories here. I wonder who will sit down for tea, what conversations we'll have, and which moments we'll still be laughing about years from now.
