Vintage china collection arranged on a linen tablecloth

The Collections

The pattern was there all along.

What we collect

I don't have one rule for what I collect. Sometimes it's the color that catches my attention. Sometimes it's the shape of a cup, a delicate border, or tiny raised dots I can't stop running my fingers over. I have favorite makers, but I'm just as happy finding something unfamiliar that I want to learn more about.

Some patterns have become full services, assembled a few pieces at a time over many years. Others are a handful of plates, a serving bowl, or cups I enjoy mixing with what I already own. I don't need every pattern to be complete. Sometimes a few pieces are all I want for a particular table.

Part of the pleasure is finding out what I've brought home. I look at backstamps, compare shapes, and try to work out when a piece was made. I also think about the people who used it before me. Most of their stories are ones I'll never know, but I can add my own by using what they left behind.

Here, I share each pattern, what I've learned about its history, and how I use it with other pieces. You'll find family treasures, secondhand discoveries, and sets that have taken years to bring together. All of them have a place at my table.
